About Bruce Best

Bruce is a highly regarded neutral, with over 25 years experience in addressing complex and contentious disputes. He is a lawyer, adjudicator, mediator, investigator, integrity commissioner, and arbitrator, with a focus on code of conduct, human rights and employment matters.
Bruce Best

As a Vice-Chair of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario from 2015 to 2021, Bruce presided over hundreds of cases addressing allegations of discrimination under the Ontario Human Rights Code. His over 500 decisions are published online.

Since 2021, he has been a lawyer at Canada’s leading workplace investigation firm, conducting investigations into allegations of discrimination in the workplace, as well as integrity commissioner work respecting alleged breaches of codes of conduct for elected officials.

His decisions and investigation reports, when challenged in the courts, have always been upheld.

Bruce holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from McGill University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996, and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.

MEDIATION

Bruce is an experienced mediator, specializing in employment and human rights matters. He has helped hundreds of parties, with his expertise, approachability, and insight, find a common ground in order to resolve disputes without the cost and uncertainty of litigation.

Integrity Commissioner

Bruce has extensive experience conducting investigations into alleged conflicts of interest and breaches of Codes of Conduct, and provides integrity commissioner services for municipalities, school boards, and professional bodies to resolve allegations of professional misconduct.

Workplace Complaints

Bruce also has extensive experience conducting investigations into complaints of improper conduct under organizational respect at work, discrimination and harassment policies, with a focus on allegations against senior management.

Arbitration

Bruce is available for arbitration/adjudication, including grievance arbitration, employment, human rights, and workplace violence policy disputes.

Review Counsel

Bruce is available to act as review counsel, bringing his experience as a decision maker and investigator to review the results of internal or external investigations, and to provide expertise on legal accuracy and defensibility of internal investigation reports.
